Email Dec. 30, 2010 announcing Gizmo’s adoption:

When Beowulf died almost exactly two years ago at age nearly 19, there were those who said that Norm & Grace would never have another dog.  Specifically, their names were Norm & Grace.                 Then a one-year-old alleged Shih-Tzu mix, with a cute underbite and an easy disposition, came into our lives.  He was hours from being put to death and the lovely Ginny Weisman, founder of the Pet Ministry, asked us to provide a temporary home for him.  We agreed, but we wanted to help find a permanent home for him.
We thought we found him an owner, but he began humping the male dog there.  Not polite.
Then another possible owner arrived, only to learn that the dog, now named Gizmo, didn't quite fit because she was allergic to him.   Another potential owner wanted a lap dog, but didn’t have much of a lap herself.  The dog balanced on her knees with his head drooping nearly to the floor.  She fell in love with a Chihuahua.
We tried to find a home through a church, at a PetCo adoption effort and in a kennel -- but Gizmo just kept on coming back to us.
Now we have decided to adopt him.  He is already training us to walk him where he wants and to feed him what he wants  to eat when he is hungry.
He is also mentioning something about wanting a college education, but we'll talk about that another time.

PS: In the photo Gizmo, formerly named Zinfandel, is on the far right.
