#Gizmo: reformed #good #dog

Two grandchildren and calm good dog

Gizmo bad-dog (or 3 am whimpering dog) (or 4 am yapping dog) has indeed again become Gizmo Good Dog, again thanks to the suggestion of our daughter, Russell.  When told of the dog’s problems, she said that perhaps the dog just wanted to be with us at night.
So we moved the cage into the bedroom and left the door open.  Gizmo RUNS into the cage and stays there quietly ALL night.   If we are reading and the lights are on in the bedroom, he will wander a bit, sleeping near a chair for 10 minutes and then in the corner closest to my side of the bed for another 10 minutes.
When I am about to turn off the lights, I get up and stand near the cage, which he immediately and apparentlyt joyfully enters.  He stays there, sleeping sometimes on his back, until after we are awake and ready to take him on a walk.
         Gizmo: the renewed good dog.
Also, the grandchildren, two young women ages 10 and 5, just spent two days with us.  Gizmo was the recipient of constant attention, loving, hugging and stuffed-toy throwing.  At no time did he display the slightest ill temper.  He never barked at them or growled or indicated that he’d rather be left alone.  We now think we have the most perfect dog.

  1. I just adopted a dog through the Pet Ministry at the Center for Spiritual Living! She is wonderful but has the same problem with whining at night. We just gave her a bath and had a dentistry done on her very neglected teeth so her breath is a lot better and now we are going to put her crate in my son's room and see how that works out for her. Thanks for the idea! KaZ Akers, www.kazakers.com

  2. Good idea. I'd love to know how it worked out. How old is your dog, what is its name and do you have a picture? )for future Gizmogooddog. We've had Gizmo since we rescued him exactly a year ago and he had time to bond with us. Does the dog like, listen to, obey your son? Maybe if your son merely petted the dog during the day, the dog will enjoy the crate at night. After a week or three of no whimpering, try putting the dog in the crate (convincing the dog with a treat after he's inside), but leaving the door open. After three weeks, no crate, just the bedroom door closed, limiting Gizmo's ability to have accidents anywhere in the house. So far, so good, two weeks, no accidents, we sleep through the night!! Congrats on solving the bad breath issues.
